Description
The Bridge is seeking a Human Resources Specialist who will provide administrative and clerical support to the Human Resources department, in addition to providing customer service to employees seeking assistance with issues relating to human resources/benefits matters.
This individual will provide excellent customer service to employees and assist with the handling of sensitive disciplinary matters in a timely manner, with tact and discretion. Assist with the maintenance of personnel records for all employees and maintain strict confidentiality. Duties include filing, rotating aged personnel files, shredding, completion of employment verification requests, etc. in compliance with Federal and other requirements.
The HR Specialist will assist with annual open enrollment for employee health insurance benefits by providing materials to all employees, tracking the open enrollment process and following up to ensure all employees have been provided with access to the available plans. They will provide ongoing assistance to employees with benefit issues involving paperwork completion or simple requests, knowing when to redirect to the Agency’s benefits consultant for more detailed matters.
Assist Human Resources Director & HR department with recruiting activities by representing TBOTW at job and career fairs, etc. Duties to include posting/closing open positions, pre-employment applicant screening, testing and interviewing activities.
Assist with the preparation and completion of paperwork relating to new hires and employment terminations, to include processing criminal background and driver license checks, as well as pre-employment, post-accident and random drug screening.
Assist Human Resources Director & HR department with documentation relating to employee leaves of absence, in particular with preparing and issuing federal forms in compliance with established guidelines, as well as tracking usage for FMLA leaves of absence. Assist Human Resources Director & HR department with processing/managing all workers’ compensation injuries; including reporting, document processing and following up with injured employees. The HR Specialist will also provide telephone and receptionist coverage as necessary in the absence of the Receptionist.

Required Skills & Qualifications
  • A High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years previous experience working in Human Resources environment.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years administrative experience.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office programs:  MS Word, Excel & Publisher.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred, not required.

Other Requirements
  • Must pass criminal background investigation check
  • Must provide and maintain current TX Driver’s License
  • Must provide and maintain clean driving record and annually update driving record
  • Must provide and maintain current auto liability insurance
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S
  • Must be able to lift/carry (40) lbs, and ascend/descend stairs in emergency shelter setting.
